“I am an artist to remind mankind of our beautiful, inspiring, spectacular Universe. For me, art is a serendipitous journey—the result of emotional connections I make from my observations and experiences in life. My vision is to create art that inspires and enlivens the senses, emotions, imagination and awareness of people. I incorporate color, shapes, and human elements that reveal my conscious and subconscious ideas, feelings, and emotions through bold colors in acrylic and mixed mediums.
“Inspiration begins when I see or hear things that provoke deep emotions—from the intoxicating music, whimsical costumes and makeup of circus shows, to the pungent, fiery reds, oranges, and yellows of the autumn leaves—contrasting with the charcoal asphalt and the pale, ultramarine sky. To break away from my ‘perfectionist mentality’, I often sketch using either the ‘blind contour’ method (drawing from a reference without looking at the paper) or with my eyes closed—allowing my head and heart to ‘disconnect’ so that ideas can flow freely without judgments. The resulting design becomes the structural form for the piece, then human elements are integrated, and, finally, colors are chosen to create contrast and vibrating effects.
“I am largely influenced and inspired by artists: Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Amedeo Modigliani, and John Singer Sargent. Matisse boldly expressed, ‘Creativity takes courage’. Every time I create, I center myself and step through my fears and my ‘need’ for perfection in order to connect with my creative soul. The result is a work that people characterize as: striking, alive, authentic, energetic, powerful, playful, beautiful, magical, and ‘emotional imagery’1.
Throughout my artistic, serendipitous journey, I create with courage, passion, perception, honesty, and most importantly, from my heart.”
